The Hallingdal region, with its six municipalities; Flå, Nesbyen, Gol, Hemsedal, Ål and Hol, is located in the beautiful Norwegian mountain area midway between Oslo and Bergen. We are easily accessed by car, bus or train.
In Hallingdal, you can enjoy fresh air, lots of space, snowy winters and excellent biking and hiking in the summer. In the valley you’ll find several famous skiing destinations such as Geilo and Hemsedal.
However, there’s a lot more to Hallingdal than nature!
Although small, we have a first-rate and modern local hospital as well as great health care services. In addition we have a sustainability and innovation centre, a great support system for startups and a wide range of cultural activities. Throughout the year you can enjoy a wide range of festivals and cultural events.
In Hallingdal, all children under the age of 5 years are guaranteed a place in Kindergarden, which in Norway is more affordable than in the Netherlands. Also there are a wide range of jobs available within different sectors, such as: Health care, education and social services, construction, hospitality services, entrepreneurship and start-ups.

The six municipalities

Learn Norwegian in Hallingdal
Speaking Norwegian makes it easier to participate in everyday life in Norway. It also increases your chances of finding a job and participating actively in the local community.
In Hallingdal, Ål Introsenter and Gol Voksenopplæring offer courses in Norwegian and social studies. The program is intended for people who move to Norway to live and work in Hallingdal. The lessons help you learn Norwegian and better understand what it is like to live, work and actively participate.

Tour of Hallingdal in August
Are you interested in Hallingdal? Do you want to get to know the valley and the six municipalities better? Then you are welcome to join us on August 7th for a bus ride around the valley. We start in Flå and end up in Geilo after also visiting Nesbyen, Gol, Hemsedal and Ål. 100 NOK p.p
